THOUGHTS ON WOMEN IN THE ARAB WORLD
A Documentary by Reem Krisht

In celebration of International Women's Day, Empower Peace and Women2Women is proud to present "Thoughts on Women in the Arab World" - a documentary produced and directed by Women2Women 2009 delegate Reem Krisht from Lebanon.

Reem's inspiring 15 minute documentary showcases conversations with people in the Middle East about the role of women in society, the workplace, and in the home.

Here is how Reem describes her video:

"'Thoughts on Women in the Arab World' is a short film dedicated towards enlightening people about the situation of women in the Arab world. There are many issues facing Arab women, however, this film is but an introduction into these various problems. I, personally, believe in my power to shake up the society I live in and to encourage other women to follow in my foot steps. Nevertheless, the majority of young Arab women aren't fully aware of their strengths and capabilities. I didn't have the financial means to create a film that would appear to be professional, yet I knew that if I wanted to deliver my message to women all around the world then I had to take action. I used my own digital camera to interview people from around the Arab world and within a couple of months, I was done. After graduating this May, I plan to begin my second short film that delves into the issues that Arab women face within the household. In any case, I believe in change; that this film will create a spark within every woman that will turn into a long lasting flame. We all need a spark to ignite our will-power to change at one point or another."
